We live in turbulent times.

Employees are being laid off.
Unions are on strike.
Big companies threaten on your little business you have run.
Your investments look like their value dropped 10+% this week.

Basically, if you are not an all-powerful god, then this cube is for you & focused on what to do in the face of adversity. Featuring TWiT 308 (around 1 hour & 42 minute mark)  & Ray Lewis on ESPN’s NFL Live.

This Cube focus on part of chapter 5 of The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau & deals with several things, ending with a couple of ideas of businesses that took less than $100 to start and earned enough for the founder to not need a traditional job.

Inside the cube is also this quotation:

The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes “sightseeing.”

~ Daniel J. Boorstin

Cube41 – Lost 200lb & Gained $250,000

Wikipedia says:

The Biggest Loser is a television show broadcast in many countries. It centers on overweight contestants attempting to lose the most weight to fight for a cash prize. There are different variations of the Biggest Loser around the world. Each country has made its own adaptation to the show; however, the contestants always have the same goal: to lose the highest percentage of weight (or most weight) to become the Biggest Loser.

The cube for today is when one such winner calls into Dave Ramsey for advice (May 30, 2011 ep), and they talk about how he has and should move forward after a big loss, err … win.

Starting Questions:

  2. Has there been a time when you ignored an aspect of your life to improve another & in turn fixed more areas of your life?

Cube38 – Life Change

Life changes come in two verities:

  • slow & steady
  • sudden

This cube deals with the second time, looking at part of an episode of the tv show In Plain Sight [season 1, episode 7 – Iris Doesn’t Live Here Anymore].

In Plain Sight is about US Marshals Mary Shannon & Marshall Mann supporting people in the Witness Protection Program. Every person in the Witness Protection Program had their lives suddenly and dramatically changed in a moment.

In this Cube, the family first learns just how different their life will be from here on out; some handle the change better than others.

Cube34 – Life is too Complex for One Tweet

Look before you leap
He who hesitates is lost

Be careful what you wish for

Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Out of sight, out of mind

Don’t cross that bridge before you come to it
A stitch in time saves nine

The customer is always right

How do you eat an elephant?

There are many one liners out in the world. This cube features a section of the book Thou Shall Prosper by Rabbi Daniel Lapin where he speaks of the danger of sticking to a simple secret to life.
