Cube0015 – Need A Vacation?

There are many dreams that individuals who start businesses often have a hard time realizing, one is taking a week off to get away.

Connie & Sheila discuss this dream, after they get back from a cruise, an annual tradition. Their business owns around 40 rental units and they have managed to find a way to have the time, energy & resources for a vacation.

In this episode, they talk about how they came to this point, why it is important, and why they see many not making it.

  1. Q1. I try to get away once or twice a year. I was last away in 9/2010. We stayed in South Florida. Our next planned vacation is April 2011. We are going hiking and backpacking in the Smoky Mountains. My dream vacation is to go to Europe for a month…travel and see the sights.

Q2. The only thing that I have not been able to delegate is reservation bookings for time when I return. Usually I can spend a moment on the phone or trade emails and handle this. However, I think it would be as simple as giving someone access to my master calendar and forwarding my calls.

Q3. I spend time getting to know the people that will be covering for me in my absence usually doing something totally unrelated to work. I listen…for that can do attitude. If I hear a lot of complaining or the attitude that life happens to them then I realize I need to go in a different direction. I have not had difficulties getting away because the people that cross my path are driven responsible people who want to perform well. Individuals that have played team sports, belong to a civic or community organization know how to be self-directed and also do their part in the team. This interviewing process is one system that I have in place.

Q4. What do I need help with? Growing my business and hiring lots of folks to work in the business.

Q5. Share why realestate can be profitable in a recession. How does one accumulate the capital to invest in realestate? Is there financing involved or liquid capital? How do you handle vacancies? Are there tax benefits to your property not renting for a period of time?

    • Q2 – yes, a good VA could handle your booking 100% of the time.

Q5. Lots of Real Estate Investing (REI) questions, my biggest advice at this point would be to visit a Real Estate Investor Association, the one in the Middle Tennessee area is called REIN ( http://www.REINtn.org ). The main monthly meeting of REIN is on the second Monday of each month. You can also listen to Connie & Sheila Talk ( http://www.connieandsheilatalk.com/ ) or Real Life Real Estate by Vena Jones-Cox ( http://www.regoddess.com/radio/default.asp ) …. but really to be successful in REI you have to build a business. That is a key, and all mentioned above & anyone else I know and respect as REIs would tell you the same.
