Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.

~ Thomas Edison

However WikiQuote.org has a variation from a press conference:

None of my inventions came by accident. I see a worthwhile need to be met and I make trial after trial until it comes. What it boils down to is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.

~ Thomas Edison

  1. Q1. That is a really broad question. My basic needs: food, clothing and shelter are met. I have physical, spiritual and mental needs. My spiritual needs is where I believe this show is touching. The everpresent need to go grow and change propelling myself with Gods’ help to grow into His image and likeness.
In that I have a need to:

Help Myself- Taking in new information, exercising, eating right, and always learning new information so I can help others.
Help Others- Showing love, interest, and compassion toward another’s need.

If I am pursuing my passion and doing what i love, input is love and as a consequence the output will be love. If not; garbage in garbage out would apply.

  2. In interest of Q1. Why do I put myself before others. It is like this; when you board an aircraft the flight attendant in their instructions as to what to do with the mask if changes in cabin pressure occur in flight. Place your mask on first before you assist your child. That is the analogy or justification if you will for helping myself first.

  3. As Edison mentioned; I need inspiration. I have various sources to receive that. I go to nature a lot of the time if I am needing to experience God’s perfect balance and wisdom. He is present with the birds, squirrels, racoons and such. They forage for food and the supply is there. However, activity is happening. they dont sit in their nests waiting for a meal. Flying here there and everywhere to get their needs met. I seek out people who feed me encouragement, constructive ways to improve, and new information.

  4. Q3. Today, I am working on my business instead of in my business. Working in my business generates income. But working on my business feeds my spirit. Working on my business could be spending time with a client listening to their concerns and questions. I leave client meetings with a fresh perspective on how I can build systems that can meet their needs.

    • working on a business generates income too, just not a direct trade of time for money. Instead you are developing a better machine to provide value to the world.

  5. Q4. Systems reduce risk, lower anxiety, and provide a map that propel you toward a goal. Jonathan uses the sailing analogy. I am not a sailor but this is my imagination as to what it would be like. This sail does this and when this happens you adjust this or that, when this happens there is this approach, and finally you reach your goal or destination.

  6. Prioritizing the way I spend my time. Trimming the fat-goal related activity or bust.
Delegating tasks that is not a goal related activity.
Learn something New- Improving My Spanish Language skills, taking a class
Be accountable to someone else for these steps.

  7. Very good point Jon in regards to question 3
